FAQs
What are your credentials?
I earned my BA in Psychology from Pacific Lutheran University in 2011. I earned my General Nutrition Certification and my Sleep, Stress Management, and Recovery Certification through Precision Nutrition - one of the largest and most respected private nutrition coaching and education organizations in the world. I also earned my Pre and Postnatal Coaching Certification through Girls Gone Strong - a premier evidence-based and women-specific education organization.
What does the process look like?
It may be different for everyone! But I always start with getting to know you and where you are needing support. From there we take steps toward your goals and what is best for you and baby. For some people that may look like figuring out how to get (and keep) food down. For others it may look like using their personalized macros to ensure they are fueling and nourishing both themselves and their baby.
Do I get a meal plan or follow a specific diet?
Nope! You get your own set of macros tailored to your body and goals. We will talk about macronutrients, nutrient-dense food choices, and nutritional balance so that you feel confident picking the best foods to nourish your body rather than just fitting whatever you can into your macros. If you don’t yet feel comfortable tracking macronutrients, we can start smaller with appropriate portions and balanced meals. Rather than tell you what to eat, I want to coach you to learn how to feed yourself well.
What about morning sickness and food aversions?
There may be times when the goal is just to get through the day, or to simply keep something down, and thats ok! There is absolutely room for difficult days, cravings, and indulgences, but pregnancy does not have to just be about surviving morning sickness. The important thing is to be intentional and do what you can when you can so that you and your baby can thrive!
Do I have to lift weights?
It’s not required, although I highly recommend and will encourage it. Regardless of whatever (and wherever) your preferred form of movement is, we will start there!
Are there modifications to workouts depending on pregnancy term, injury, or ability?
Absolutely! All of the exercises we talk about will be safe for you wherever you are in your journey.
How do we choose which area to focus on?
We will always start with nutrition. Fueling yourself is paramount. From there we will reference your goals and needs, and work together to choose which areas of focus are most necessary to prioritize.
How will we measure progress?
There are many methods of measuring progress. Objectively, we can look at things like a habit tracker or food journal. Subjectively, we can note things like energy and nausea levels or sleep quality.
How do we work around variables like vacation or illness?
Things happen! If it’s not vacation or illness, it will be something else. Part of our work together will be anticipating possible road blocks and learning how to work around them. 100% consistency 100% of the time is impossible. What is most important is building and maintaining a healthy foundation.
Do I have to live close to work with you?
Not at all! Intake and check-ins can be done over the phone or through email.
How can I be confident this will benefit me?
Like anything else, you get out of this what you put into it. This isn’t an overnight process. Learning to understand your body’s needs takes time, but you are worth the time it takes!
